Panacea ministry plans $5-or-less thrift store to aid storm relief efforts
We Not Me Farms Ministries Inc., a Christian nonprofit based in Panacea, is coordinating multiple efforts to support communities in Carrabelle, Florida. The ministry’s focus is on neighbors helping neighbors, particularly in the wake of recent storm damage. One of its key initiatives is collecting supplies for areas affected by Hurricane Isaias, with a dedicated section aimed at providing relief for both current and future storm impacts.
Kurt Lent, a senior trustee with the ministry, said the lack of response during Hurricane Helene inspired him to contribute to storm recovery efforts. With 45 years of experience in heavy machinery, Lent offers his skills free of charge to aid in cleanup. He emphasized the importance of building a sustainable system for repeated response efforts, ensuring the community can recover effectively after each storm.
The ministry is also preparing to open its first-ever thrift store, where all items will cost $5 or less. Lent explained that many neighbors are facing difficult financial decisions, and the thrift store is designed to provide affordable options. The goal is to expand the thrift store across Florida, creating a community-based system that benefits everyone involved.
Carrabelle neighbor Michael Ross highlighted the convenience of having the thrift store locally. He noted that traveling to nearby stores like Walmart and Crawfordville is time-consuming and costly, especially with current gas prices. Ross said the store will help reduce travel expenses and make everyday necessities more accessible.
Lent emphasized that the thrift store is part of a broader effort to support the community in multiple ways. In addition to providing affordable goods, the ministry also offers food and other forms of assistance. The project reflects a commitment to practical neighbor-love, ensuring that resources are available to those in need.
The ministry’s work aligns with the biblical theme of justice, mercy, and humble service, as described in Micah 6:8. By addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainability, We Not Me Farms Ministries Inc. continues to serve its community with compassion and purpose.
