The OneSchool Global (OSG) network, originally established by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, operates two schools in Northern Ireland. One is located in Newry, County Down, and the other in Knockloughrim, County Londonderry. Both schools are independent and not funded by the Department of Education (DE), though they are inspected by the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI).

The Newry school has seen a decline in pupil numbers, with 21 students currently enrolled, down from 34 in the 2020/21 academic year. The ETI inspection report attributes this drop to a reduction in the Plymouth Brethren community living in the area. The school primarily serves learners from this community, and the decline reflects broader changes in the local population.

In contrast, the Knockloughrim school has experienced a slight increase in enrollment, with 80 pupils as of the latest inspection, up from 73 in the previous academic year. The OSG schools in Northern Ireland do not follow the Northern Ireland curriculum but instead offer subjects similar to those in other OSG schools across the UK, including Cambridge International A-Levels, which are not currently recognized by the Department of Education in Northern Ireland.

The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church holds to a core doctrine that regards the Old and New Testament as the inspired and infallible word of God. The church also practices the principle of separation, encouraging believers to draw away from the world in a moral sense, though communication and interaction with non-brethren are permitted.

The schools emphasize self-directed learning and independence, with pupils completing most of their work online. This approach allows students in Northern Ireland to participate in classes with other OSG schools in the UK, reflecting the network’s educational philosophy.

OSG has 26 schools across the United Kingdom and others in the USA, Europe, the Caribbean, and Australia. The schools operate independently, with their own curricula and methods of instruction, and are subject to inspection by the ETI. The Newry school’s decline highlights the impact of demographic changes on the community that supports these institutions.
