Salvation Army in Topeka, Kansas, Hosts Annual Back-to-School Bash for Students
The Salvation Army hosted its annual “Back to School Bash” on Monday morning in Topeka, Kansas, to build excitement among young students for returning to class.
At the event, students could pick up school supplies, get free vaccines, and receive free haircuts so they could look their best and feel confident as the school year begins. Organizers also offered free pizza, candy and watermelon, and children had a chance to win prizes.
Major Kenia Pina, Corps Officer of Topeka’s Salvation Army, said the children were eager to return to school. She described the joy of seeing students smile as they received their supplies, saying they were very happy. Providing school supplies to families before the year starts reflects a commitment to generosity toward neighbors in need (Hebrews 13:16).
The event comes as some northeast Kansas school districts begin classes this week and next. According to district websites cited by WIBW, the first day of school for the remaining districts ranges from Aug. 11 to Aug. 20, with Mission Valley USD 330 among those listed.
