Barbara Lacy, Pastor’s Wife and Member of Disciples of Christ, Dies at 88
Barbara Allen Lacy, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 88, was a devoted member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a lifelong servant in her community. Born on October 14, 1936, in Corning, New York, she grew up on a dairy farm with her 14 siblings, where she attended and graduated from Corning Northside High School. Her early life was rooted in rural simplicity, shaping her values and work ethic.
Barbara moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she met and married Reverend Joe Lacy on November 21, 1958. After Joe graduated from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, the couple relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana, to begin their ministry. They served at Kings Highway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where Joe was an associate minister and Barbara began her lifelong commitment to supporting her husband’s pastoral work. Throughout their ministry, Barbara accompanied Joe as they served at various congregations across Texas and Louisiana, including First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dumas, Chickasha, and Baton Rouge, and finally Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Houston, Texas, where Joe retired.
In addition to her role as a pastor’s wife, Barbara worked in the oil and gas industry in Houston until her retirement. Her life reflected the qualities of a Proverbs 31 woman—faithful, industrious, and devoted to family and community. She had a passion for gardening, painting, genealogy, and crafts, and she was known for her love of cheering on her TCU Horned Frogs. Barbara was also a Master Gardener, certified by Texas A&M University, and she enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, often taking detours to explore small towns and collect interesting rocks.
Barbara is remembered by many as a cherished friend, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, supporting their participation in dance, theater, and sports. Her legacy is one of love, service, and dedication to family and faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and several siblings and a daughter-in-law. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, sons, and grandchildren.
Barbara’s life exemplifies the call to love our neighbors as ourselves, as described in Micah 6:8. Her example of faithfulness and service continues to inspire those who knew her.
