GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is sponsoring its annual Wellness Walk/Run during the SBC annual meeting in San Antonio. SBC messengers and their families are invited to join GuideStone for the June 12 walk, which starts at the Alamo Street entrance to HemisFair Park. The park is next to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and within walking distance of most hotels in the River Walk area.

GuideStone President O.S. Hawkins framed the event in terms of stewardship. “The body is ‘the temple of the Holy Spirit,'” Hawkins said, “and we have a stewardship of this physical gift from God. It is our desire to continue to raise the standard high and call upon our Southern Baptist friends to get serious about their personal wellness and begin to make right choices leading to healthier lifestyles.”

The walk offers a one-mile course and a 5K course for both runners and walkers. A warm-up will begin at 6:15 a.m., and start times will begin at 6:30 a.m. and be staggered for runners and walkers. Caring for the body as a gift from God is a stewardship worth taking seriously (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Participants can register at www.GuideStone.org or by calling 1-888-984-8433. Registered walkers can pick up their bib numbers at the Wellness Walk booth. The booth will be near the convention registration area on June 10, and at the GuideStone Wellness Center on the exhibit floor on June 11.

The event’s featured speaker will be author Rosaria Butterfield, who will share her conversion experience to Christ and teach from her book “Five Lies of our Anti-Christian Age.”

The theme of the event is “Rooted in His Love,” based on Ephesians 3:14–21. Guest speakers include Jo Carwile, Missy Lundy, Pam Atcheson, Candace McIntosh and Julie Boyd.
