Jessica Biggs leads early results in Chicago, Illinois, school board president race
Jessica Biggs, Hilario Dominguez, Victor Henderson and dozens of other candidates are competing for seats on the Chicago Board of Education. It is the first Chicago school board race in which all members are elected. Coverage noted that the stakes are high, citing student performance, persistent budget problems and under-enrollment. Polls were scheduled to close at 7 p.m. CT, with midterm returns expected about a half-hour later.
In the race for board president, Jessica Biggs held the lead with 48.64% of the vote (274,893 votes) when the count was 95% expected. Hilario Dominguez had 30.89% (174,591 votes), Victor Henderson had 17.78% (100,488 votes), and Sendhil Revuluri had 2.7% (15,233 votes). These figures were preliminary and reflected only the portion of the vote that had been reported at that time.
